Ten industry representatives gathered on Aug. 11 in Denver to discuss the possibility of a new NASTT regional chapter covering the states of Colorado, Utah and Wyoming. This organizational committee meeting resulted in the formation of the Rocky Mountain Chapter - NASTT's newest chapter since the Mid Atlantic Chapter formed in 2004.

Subsidiary will provide Management for Two Mexico City Mega Tunnels: A new Robbins office is now operating in Mexico City, initially to provide services on two local mega projects using four Robbins EPBs. Robbins Mexico opened March 1 and offers project management services to both Mexico City Metro Line 12 and Emisor Oriente projects. The city’s new metro line, which will utilize a 10.2 m (33.5 ft) diameter EPB on a 6.2 km (3.9 mi) long tunnel, is scheduled to begin in late 2009. Emisor Oriente, a 62 km (39 mi) long wastewater line requiring multiple TBMs, will see the launch of three Robbins EPBs in 2010.

Robbins announces its newest Trenchless product, the Robbins Motorized Small Boring Unit (MSBU). The Robbins MSBU is a technically advanced type of Robbins' Small Boring Unit (SBU). Both Robbins MSBUs and SBUs are used in conjunction with an Auger Boring Machine (ABM). The MSBU, a rock boring attachment, can be steered continually throughout the drive. The MSBU can also bore longer drives and through harder rock than the SBU.
