Recent studies [Dohma2002a] [Dettm2004a] [Dettm2005a] [Pinne2005] [Dettm2005a] show that surge flushing devices are not only appropriate for preventive cleaning measures of sewers, stormwater tanks and stormwater sewers at regular intervals, but also for their thorough cleaning.
According to [Dettm2005a], the deposits that have built up over a period of months or years can be removed in the process of thorough cleaning of sewers. In most cases, a considerable build-up of deposit amounts in-situ and solidifications to a certain degree are to be expected. Generally, thorough cleaning is an isolated process that is carried out just once, immediately before an ongoing preventive cleaning approach is instituted. The application of other cleaning methods might also be required.
Preventive cleaning (also called maintenance cleaning) of sewers using surge flushing is defined as the removal of deposits at regular intervals. It allows for a prompt removal of deposits, or rather the provision of permanently deposit-free sewers. Generally, the substances that have to be mobilised here are unconsolidated.
