Flushing method recommendations
Operational concept – Step 5 (Number of surge waves)
Recommendations for the number of surge waves required for a preventive cleaning of sewers is shown in the following table. Given very large deposit amounts, the values stated in the table are to be increased accordingly.
| Sanitary sewer | Combined sewer | Overflow channel | Storm sewer | |||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dry Weather | 1 – 3 Waves/Day | - | ||||
| At the end of a storm event | - | 1 – 5 Waves/Day | ||||
The number of required surge waves for a thorough cleaning ranges between 100 and 1,000 a day. Therefore, for an efficient thorough cleaning, the high number of surge waves required per day should be planned accordingly, so to avoid a superposition of surge waves [Pinne2005].
