An essential detail is the break-proof and maintenance-free double joint. It allows the grate to be opened to an angle of about 115° on both sides or to be removed entirely. A quadruple insulation that is installed inside of the frame prevents rattling noises.
Compared to standard designs , the grate has a lower weight and smaller slit openings of only 25 mm and is supposed to take over the function of a screen for the retention of coarse material, such as leaves, branches, grass, etc. on the road surface.
As proven by the experience of the manufacturer and in-situ-tests by Stein, this function does not increase the risk of a blocked grate caused by a formation of leaves, especially in the event of thundershowers with storm and hail and, consequently, it does not increase the risk of flooded roads - despite providing protection against overburdened sewers [SteinR08].
