The TA Siedlungsabfall (Administrative Directive of the Waste Avoidance and Management Act) para. 5.2.9 (TASI since 2009 has been blended with the "ordinance for the simplification of the landfill laws") and requires "aiming at the conditioning and recycling of the residue (grit chamber and grease trap residue, screenings, residue from the cleaning of the sewer, sewer system and gully) [...]". Where this is not possible, the waste material is to be prepared for further disposal [TASi1993].
As stated in DIN [EN752:2008], the environment-related effects of the disposal of waste material from sewer cleaning measures have to be taken into consideration. The disposal is to be done in coordination with the appropriate authorities.
Hauled sewage (septage) is defined as a waste in [Ontario Regulation 347]: General -Waste Management made under the Environmental Protection Act. Section 27 of the Act requires Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change approval for the both the transport (waste management system) and disposal (waste disposal site) of wastes. Based on the Ontario Sewage Self-Assessment guideline, an operator is responsible to ensure all hauled sewage removed is:
