The solids found in sewers originate predominantly from the following sources:

  • Wastewater discharge
    • Domestic wastewater

    • Commercial and industrial wastewater

  • Stormwater discharge
    • Surface solids entry through catch basins

    • Roof drainage systems

  • from extraneous water infiltration
