The various components found in wastewater are classified according to their physical state:
-
Dissolved substances (liquids),
-
Emulsified substances (water-immiscible liquids), and
-
Suspended solids (solids).
The various components found in wastewater are classified according to their physical state:
Dissolved substances (liquids),
Emulsified substances (water-immiscible liquids), and
Suspended solids (solids).
An emulsion is a mixture of two or more immiscible liquids usually without visible separation. One liquid (phase) forms small droplets dispersed in the other liquid. In an emulsion, one liquid (the dispersed phase) is dispersed in the other (the continuous phase).
