Water Environment Federation (WEF) acquires World Water & Environmental Engineering, launches WEF Publishing UK Limited (WEFP)
Feb 13, 2007
The Water Environment Federation (WEF), a U.S. based not-for-profit technical and educational organization, announces the acquisition of World Water & Environmental Engineering from Faversham House Group Ltd. Surrey, UK (FHG) and the subsequent formation of WEF Publishing UK Limited (WEFP), a wholly-owned and for-profit subsidiary of WEF. Currently located in central London, WEFP will begin publishing the magazine in March 2007 and eventually expand into a full-service publishing company to produce and market WEF technical and educational products in Europe.
Formally acquired from FHG on January 17, 2007, World Water & Environmental Engineering is a bi-monthly international water quality magazine distributed to over 10,000 water quality professionals throughout Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East and North and South America. The magazine will couple with WEF’s flagship publication, Water Environment & Technology (WE&T), to provide up-to-date technical and educational resources to the growing global water quality community.
An international editorial board is planned for the magazine with a focus on water quality issues (technical, policy, and fiscal) as they are happening throughout Europe, Africa, the Middle East, USA and Asia. Nic Christy has been appointed the London-based publisher.
Headquartered just outside of Washington, DC, WEF’s vision to “preserve and enhance the global water environment” is the basis for all its programs and activities. This new expansion not only supports one of the Federation’s strategic goals of broadening constituencies and developing a greater international presence, but is also expected to increase benefits to members and business opportunities for advertisers.

“From a business standpoint, this new venture opens up incredible avenues for growth,” said Jack Benson, WEF’s Chief Commercial Officer. “Pairing up the two magazines not only benefits our members but also provides a powerful tool for water quality companies to increase exposure in the global marketplace.”
Formed in 1928, the Water Environment Federation has 36,000 members and 76 Member Associations in 30 countries. In addition to its numerous educational programs, technical training materials and publications, the Federation is perhaps best known as the creator and sponsor of WEFTEC®, the world’s largest annual water quality event.
