Advanced GIS-Centric Modeling Technology to Support Comprehensive Water Systems Improvement Projects

Innovyze, a leading global innovator of business analytics software and technologies for wet infrastructure, today announced that following a competitive review, the General Directorate for Water and Sewerage of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Iraq, has elected to deploy multiple licenses of Innovyze’s InfoWater Suite, the industry’s premier ArcGIS-centric (Esri, Redlands, CA) water supply and distribution modeling, management and optimization software.

Within the framework of the Water Supply Improvement Project under the Ministry of Municipality and Tourism for the Kurdistan Region, InfoWater software will be used to develop detailed, accurate models of the water networks of the cities of Erbil (population 800,000), Duhok (population 300,000), Sulaymaniyah (population 770,000) and Halabjah (population 58,000). The networks comprise a total of approximately 2,700 km of water mains. The models will be used to optimize capital planning and determine cost-effective system expansion and improvement strategies aimed at ensuring a safe, stable water supply. The improved water supplies will also contribute to social and economic rehabilitation in Iraq.

“Network modeling is one of the most powerful and viable means of developing sound, cost-effective and reliable solutions for managing complex water infrastructures — and Innovyze continues to lead the industry in this field,” said Adel AbouJaoude, Ph.D., Associate and Environmental Engineering Department Manager at Khatib & Alami, a leading engineering and utility solutions provider. “The superior ArcGIS-centric solutions delivered by Innovyze are far and away the easiest, fastest, and most powerful engineering GIS modeling and design software we’ve seen or used. They also offer the best value in terms of features and functions. Innovyze products make master planning fast, easy, cost-effective, and accurate, giving us more power to not only improve operations, performance and integrity in our clients’ existing systems by correcting deficiencies, but plan the new facilities they need to accommodate rapid growth. Our partnership with Innovyze will play a critical role in enabling us to reach all these goals.”

With direct support to geodatabases, the innovative network modeling and design technology of InfoWater software addresses every facet of water utility infrastructure management, operation, and protection — delivering the highest rate of return in the industry. Drawing on the most advanced hydraulic and water quality simulation and geospatial analysis technologies, the software effortlessly reads GIS datasets, corrects network topology problems and data flaws, extracts pertinent modeling information, and reliably constructs credible network models with astounding speed. Once models have been established, users can easily run and simulate various conditions, pinpoint system deficiencies, and determine the most cost-effective physical and operational improvements to achieve optimum performance and regulatory compliance while improving community relations.

Paul F. Boulos, Ph.D., Hon.D.WRE, F.ASCE, Innovyze’s President and COO, said, “We are delighted to expand our relationship with the Kurdistan Regional Government and to support its vital mission with world-class engineering GIS modeling, design and optimization solutions. The adoption of our products by top cities in the Middle East is a powerful indicator of the value they deliver to our customers in this water-scarce environment. We’re proud that the majority of the largest and most progressive municipalities in this vital region of the world continue to look to us for help in improving and sustaining their critical socioeconomic infrastructures, directly improving people’s lives.”
