Borealis focuses on innovation and sustainability at Plastpol 2011

May 24, 2011

With a focus on innovation and sustainability, Borealis presents the value-added capabilities of its latest polyolefins (PO) for markets including packaging, mobility, infrastructure, and healthcare at Plastpol 2011 from May 24-27 in Kielce, Poland.

Featured polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE) developments from Borealis, a leading provider of chemical and innovative plastics solutions, will demonstrate the advanced efficiency, performance and differentiation opportunities available to plastics processors and converters, manufacturers and brand owners.

These include lightweight and thin-wall solutions, energy-saving production, cutting-edge aesthetics and organoleptics, long-term product performance and productivity-boosting materials. Highlights at Plastpol 2011 include the following innovations detailed below.

Manufacturing and user benefits for healthcare applications
Borealis is one of the leading polyolefin suppliers for the healthcare market meeting all stringent requirements of the industry offering security of supply, dedicated materials, additional support and innovation. New opportunities for improved performance and efficiency in the healthcare market include Bormed™ LE6601-PH for flexible ampoules and Bormed™ SC820CF for soft medical film, pouches and tubing. Bormed dedicated polyolefins meet the highest quality standards and fulfil all regulatory requirements for pharmaceutical and medical applications.

BorSafe™ and BorECO™ for sustainable pipe infrastructure solutions
BorSafe™ PE100 LS-H, for water and gas distribution systems, offers durability and reliability with a long, low maintenance service life, while allowing for cost efficient and environmentally friendly modern and innovative installation methods.

BorECO™ PP materials are specifically designed to improve the performance of solid and corrugated wall pipes for underground, non-pressure sewerage systems that meet the industry’s demand for speed and ease of production and installation while protecting ground water and the environment.

VW Touareg bumper fascias strengthen PP foothold in automotive industry
PP is gaining an increasing foothold in automotive applications owing to its weight reduction, fuel efficiency, aesthetics and unit cost-saving advantages. For example, Daplen™ EH104AE and Daplen™ VB4411, elastomer modified PP (TPO) grades containing 10% mineral filler, were chosen for the bumper fascias on the new VW Touareg. The materials provided the ideal solution to meet requirements for very low thermal expansion and to yield parts with “zero gap” dimensional tolerance.

BorShape™ covers packaging challenges in one solution
BorShape, a new generation of film materials that offers unparalleled performance without compromising operational performance, makes a first-time appearance at Plastpol. It sets a new standard in the PO film market by creating new opportunities to develop innovative packaging films with less material, greater efficiency and improved environmental and lifecycle performance. High toughness and very high stiffness allow faster line speeds, downgauging of up to 30%, and lower energy use during processing and transportation for films that match or outperform the features of comparable advanced metallocene based PE materials.

Borealis’ innovative film and fibre solutions for food packaging and industrial applications are backed by excellent service, solid logistics and short delivery lead time for Central and Eastern Europe thanks to the close proximity of Borealis’ production locations.

“Borealis’ developments in polypropylene and polyethylene are creating new market opportunities and adding to the efficiency and environmental performance of plastics processors around the world. Plastpol 2011 presents an ideal opportunity to share our latest innovations with existing and potential customers from the region and to highlight our support for the emerging Eastern European markets,” comments Gerd Löbbert, Executive Vice President for Polyolefins at Borealis.
