ISTT Colombo Summit

Jul 31, 2013
Category: Seminar

The condition of water supply and sanitation services is a huge concern in Sri Lanka. The current sewerage system in Sri Lanka alone comprises some 320 kilometres of sewers and although it was substantially rebuilt and expanded in the 1980s, the sewer pipes frequently suffer from blockages and collapses and are in need of repair.

The Sri Lankan Government was awarded loans of approximately US$100million from the Asian Development Bank and the Asian Development Fund to assist with a major investment programme to rehabilitate Greater Columbo’s ageing sewer system and a programme is in the early stages and also under review.

Engineers have already identified that trenchless technology will be a preferred method for this rehabilitation programme, recognising that these methods will minimise disruption to the travelling public during these extensive works.

ISTT’s initiative to hold a Trenchless Masterclass in Colombo has been welcomed by local authorities and this one day event will provide an intensive educational forum, also providing sponsors with an excellent opportunity to promote products through displays and also by participating in the case study sessions incorporated into the seminar programme.
