IKT-Workshop on Pipe Jacking Simulation

in cooperation with Emschergenossenschaft 1:1 Scale Simulation Research Results International Experience

Feb 14, 2007
Target groups: Engineers, technicians
Category: Workshop
At IKT-Institute for Underground Infrastructure, Germany, a unique pipe jacking simulator has been build, with support of the Ministry of the Environment and Conservation, Agriculture and Consumer Protection of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (MUNLV).

This facility allows 1:1 scale tests of DN 1600 pipes, on a total pipeline length of 15 meters with simulated length of up to 80 meters.

A pipeline of five consecutive concrete pipes can be surcharged with jacking forces of up to 8 MN. The facility allows for simulation of different jacking lines like curves or steering movements. We use 8 horizontal hydraulic jacks for lateral movements, 4x2MN jacks for driving pressure, and about 40 pressure pads for bedding conditions. By this, e.g. different materials for pressure transmission can be tested under identical and realistic conditions and current structural models for pipe jacking and loading conditions may be verified (or falsified).

Short statements on your own work are appreciated in the afternoon session!
