Around the globe, questions of water supply and wastewater treatment are becoming ever more pressing and are intensified by climate change and a growing world population.

During the first day, the Symposium will deal with global, general issues such as "virtual water" and the "Millennium Development Goals". In the following days, special attention will be paid to agricultural reuse of wastewater, the question of micropollutants and options for adapting existing central wastewater systems. The final day of the symposium will focus on future developments and challenges of wastewater disposal in a global context.

The symposium is organised by the "Stadtentwässerung Braunschweig GmbH" in cooperation with the Institute of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering of the TU Braunschweig, the Berlin Centre of Competence for Water and the "Abwasserverband Braunschweig".
