Plans become reality for Wales & West utilities
Following its three-plus two year supplier agreement with gas distribution company, Wales & West Utilities, signed in 2008, MAN has delivered two new MAN TGS 26.440 6x2-4 BL chassis with ground-breaking suction excavation equipment from TT-UK and German design partner RSP. These are the first two vehicles of their kind purchased by WWU and are used for below ground gas-pipe maintenance and replacement work. Surrounding ground, including broken concrete, is sucked up and deposited in a chassis mounted container.

Skanska to construct rail tunnel in New York for USD 52 M, approximately SEK 380 M
Skanska has been awarded a design/build contract for a new rail tunnel in New York, U.S. Skanska's share of the contract amount is USD 52 M, or approximately SEK 380 M, which will be included in second-quarter order bookings. Skanska has a 20-percent share of the total contract amount, which is USD 258 M. The customer is New Jersey Transit.

Robbins EPB Attains City-Wide Record in Chengdu
TBM bests 11 other machines with advance rate: In spring 2010, contractors celebrated a city-wide excavation record on the Chengdu Metro, of 457.5 m (1,500 ft) in one month. The 6.26 m (20.5 ft) diameter Robbins EPB has excavated at rates of up to 24 m (79 ft) per day-faster than any of the 11 other TBMs working on the project. The machine began excavation of Line 2, Lot 18 of the Chengdu Metro in January 2010, as part of a project for the China Railway Construction Corp, Ltd. (CRCC).

HOBAS Opens Top-Level Research Center

Borouge breaks ground for a new Innovation Centre in Abu Dhabi
Borealis’ joint-venture Borouge, a leading provider of innovative, value creating plastics solutions, was breaking ground for its new Innovation Centre in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on April 27, 2010. With a total investment in excess of US$ 70 million in equipment and facilities, Borouge’s Innovation Centre in Abu Dhabi will work together with the European innovation centres of Borealis as well as with local and international educational institutions such as the Petroleum Institute of Abu Dhabi, to further develop the competence of polymer science in the United Arab Emirates. Robbins Single Shield Launched on Laotian Hydro Scheme
Country's first TBM will help power up neighboring nation: In early 2010, contractor CMC di Ravenna oversaw the launch of the first tunnel boring machine ever to excavate in Laos. The 7.6 m (25.1 ft) diameter Robbins Single Shield TBM is digging a new hydroelectric tunnel for the Theun Hinboun Expansion Project, which will provide power to neighboring Thailand.

£25million to combat Counter?s Creek sewer flooding
Thames Water is spending up to £25million over the next five years on measures to stop basements flooding with sewage at properties in west London: Work from 2010 to 2015 in the Counter’s Creek area includes delivering a short-term solution - fitting more than 600 pumping systems to protect the worst-affected properties - while research and design continues on a long-term solution - a larger sewer network costing several hundred million pounds.

Aker Wirth develops new machine for rapid underground mine development
