White Paper: Water – A Key Consideration in Achieving Net Zero 2050

Mar 11, 2022

As the UK lays out ambitious targets to cut carbon and achieve Net Zero in 2050, an essential aspect of the equation is being overlooked: water supply. Some of the new technologies that the country is banking on to transform our carbon fortunes – hydrogen and carbon capture and storage – use considerable amounts of water.

And water, in many areas of the country over the next 30 years, is likely to be in short supply. The scale of the transition required, and the water required to assist that change, means that water, and how it is sourced and treated, is a concern for today, at the outset of the transition, rather than just a problem for further down the line.
