Tunnelling contractor Rob Carr successfully demonstrated its versatility through completion of intricate bypass works. In May, the Rob Carr team needed to connect to an existing 100-year-old brick sewer under live conditions and high sewage flows. The works required a tailored solution for the delicate circumstances of the project, the company said on LinkedIn.

“Our team designed a bespoke shaped flume pipe to not only facilitate the connection, but also eliminate the need for expensive bypass pumping,” the company said. “Despite significant time constraints during night shift, the work was completed on time and with the requisite precision.

Our team’s meticulous planning, technical prowess, and commitment to quality were instrumental in achieving a successful outcome.”

While Rob Carr has successfully used this technique on other various projects, this particular occasion had to ensure timelines were met to mitigate the effect of the high sewage flow rates. “This achievement underscores our company’s adaptability and willingness to offer comprehensive solutions to complex infrastructure projects,” the company said. “We take pride in our ability to deliver innovative results, even in challenging circumstances.”

Rob Carr is currently working on Stage 1 of the South Melbourne Sewerage Capacity Upgrade being undertaken by Melbourne’s South East Water. Rob Carr

was engaged by the Fulton Hogan Delplant Beca joint venture (FHDB) as its constructor of choice for the sewer works beneath the streets of South Melbourne.
