Tom Iseley Moves to Purdue
Dr. Tom Iseley returned to Purdue University having been appointed as the Beavers Heavy Construction Distinguished Fellow with an academic rank of full Professor of Engineering Practice in the Construction Engineering and Management Division (CEM) in the College of Engineering. This Fellow position was established in honor of Dr. Donn E. Hancher who was Tom’s major Ph.D. professor.

Robbins Single Shield Breaks through Turkey’s Hardest Rock
In July, a jubilant ceremony marked a milestone for southern Turkey’s arduous Bahçe-Nurdaği High-Speed Railway Tunnel. The first TBM-driven portion of tunneling using an 8.0 m (26.2 ft) diameter Robbins Single Shield machine is now complete. The 8.9 km (5.5 mi) long TBM tunnel was no easy bore, as it was excavated through some of the hardest and most abrasive rock ever encountered in the country.

Mega Project Brenner Base Tunnel: First Milestone Achieved with Herrenknecht Tunnel Boring Machine
A first major step has been taken in the construction of the world's longest underground rail link with a length of twice 64 kilometers in total. In July, with the completion of the 16.7 km long exploratory tunnel, proud tunnelers at the Brenner Base Tunnel celebrated the first decisive breakthrough of a Herrenknecht tunnel boring machine. A key structure for sustainable trans-European freight and passenger transport is being built on the north-south axis from Helsinki to Valletta.

Xylem Watermark Donates 40,000 Masks to Essential Water Workers in Rural Communities
Xylem Watermark, the corporate citizenship program of global water technology company Xylem Inc., announced it is sourcing and donating 40,000 N95 masks to frontline utility operators. The program is providing for the safety of essential water, wastewater and solid waste utility workers in smaller, rural and tribal utilities who have kept water flowing in their communities amidst the challenges of COVID-19. The first shipments of face masks began in late July.
