With 400 Million Smart Water Meters to be Installed Worldwide by 2026, Scalable Meter Data Management is Crucial
As pressures of climate change and water wastage rise, smart water meters are becoming increasingly critical for global water conservation efforts by utilities to track water usage and identify waste and leakage. This drive for digitalization of water utilities distribution network will result in an installed base of 400 million smart water meters worldwide by 2026, according to a new report from global tech market advisory firm, ABI Research.

Kansas City's Smart Sewer Program Selects Electro Scan for 22-Mile Sewer Condition Assessment Project
Electro Scan Inc. announced that its patented technology has been selected for a 22-mile sewer condition assessment project for the City of Kansas City, Missouri as part of Kansas City’s Smart Sewer program. As part of the project, California-based Electro Scan Inc. has provided a technology-as-a-service licensing agreement to have a national contractor complete the field work.

Thames Water has started drilling out the record-breaking ‘concreteberg’ lurking under the streets of central London. The mammoth is the largest lump of concrete the company has ever seen in the sewers, and is currently set hard underground at Goswell Road, Islington.

WPL Awarded Retrofit Wastewater Contract
WPL has been awarded a contract for permanent replacement of a rotating biological contactor (RBC) at Mowpen Brow wastewater treatment works. WPL’s Hybrid-SAFTM enhanced biological treatment process will be retrofitted into the existing RBC tank at the United Utilities site near Knutsford, Cheshire.

Wastewater treatment specialist WPL has made a rapid transition to the new health and safety standard set by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety standard was introduced in April 2018 and organisations are advised to transfer by March 2021 if they wish to retain a recognised certification.

CEN Publishes First EN Standard for PVC-O Pressure Pipes
The first European EN standard for oriented unplasticised poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-O) pipes came out in April 2019, after an extensive four-year development process, initiated by TEPPFA. EN 17176 PVC-O piping systems for water supply and for buried and above-ground drainage, sewerage and irrigation under pressure, adopted in the 28 EU member states and other 6 member countries, creates a new Europe-wide voluntary standard for those manufacturing PVC-O pipes, where previously there had been a variety of non-aligned national standards.
