From 20 March to 29 March 2007 UNITRACC trained Indian decision makers at the competence centre of the Indian Society for Trenchless Technology (INDSTT) in New Delhi with the online course programme "Trenchless 101". The course dealt with the latest trenchless alternatives for the new installation and rehabilitation. The seminar closed with the two-day event "No-Dig India" under the subheading "No-Dig India Capacity Building for Urban Renewal through Trenchless Technology" where the participants of the course were awarded their certificates. Robert Stein, managing director of Knowledge Factory, UNITRACC's operating company, icontributed to the event by giving a lecture on the sustainability of supply and disposal infrastructures.

New DIN standards for water pressure pipes recognise PP-RCT

During 2006, the German standards for polypropylene (PP) pressure pipes have been revised. The designations PP-H100, PP-B80 and PP-R80 have been withdrawn as they did not reflect the required behaviour at elevated temperatures and were changed to PP-H, PP-B and PP-R. Also, pioneering PP-RCT has now been officially recognised as a category under the new German standards DIN 8077 and DIN 8078 for PP pressure pipes. The creation of a new PP-RCT class means that these solutions can now be tested according to a widely accepted quality standard.

TBM embarks on Spanish rail tunnel

A 10 m (32.8 ft) diameter Single Shield TBM began boring on the Lot 4 west tunnel of the Pajares tunnel project in August 2006. The machine was designed by Robbins and built by MHI-Duro Felguera in Spain. Robbins is supplying the back-up system, electrical and hydraulic components, field service, shield engineering, and part of the conveyor system. The project is part of Spain's Alta Velocidad Española (AVE) high-speed rail link and includes two parallel 10.5 km (6.5 mi) long tunnels for traveling both east and west.

In connection with a joint project by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) (German Society for Technical Cooperation), S&P Consult GmbH (Bochum) is currently developing a rehabilitation strategy for the water and wastewater network. This strategy is to be applied to the populous district Ain Al Basha situated north of the Jordanian capital Aman. Here, the basic and advanced training of experts on the field of water- and wastewater networks in Jordan plays an important part. The qualification and training measures in Jordan are based on the successful and approved comprehensive e-learning concept of the web-based teaching-, learning- and working platform UNITRACC.

Siemens' Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S) has supplied the design and equipment for a purifying plant that removes nitrogen (nitrification/ denitrification) from wastewater arising in the course of the manufacture of pharmaceutical products. This plant is located in Wuming, South China, and is operated by Degussa Rexim (Nanning) Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Degussa (China) Co. Ltd. The scope of delivery by the I&S Water Technologies Division also includes the electrical equipment, instrumentation, and automation systems.
