Egeplast acquires innovative Solvay technology
Solvay announces today that it has concluded an agreement for the transfer of its HexelOneTM reinforced plastic pipe technology to Egeplast Werner Strumann GmbH & Co. KG, the German polyethylene pipes manufacturer. The HexelOneTM process allows the production of high resistance, large diameter tubing for water and gas distribution networks with considerably improved environmental performance. The process was developed by Solvay's New Business Development (NBD) team at the Group's Research & Technology campus in Neder-over-Heembeek, Belgium.

Demonstration of pipe and pipeline integrity by means of intelligent pigging systems
The service life of all man-made "technical products" is limited. Piping and pipelines are no exception. For technical installations such as pipelines, availability of which is critical for global economy, strength analyses and service life calculations must be prepared to furnish evidence of pipeline integrity and strength. The aim of these analyses and calculations is, despite ongoing operational loads, to prevent impermissible stresses from acting on pressurized parts and possibly resulting in critical conditions. The increasing use of thin-walled pipes made of high-strength steel further adds to the necessity of inspecting pipe walls for direct and indirect defects. Direct defects are those which impact on pipeline safety and integrity and are generally detected by inspection pigs (pipeline inspection gauges).

Detection of coating defects in pipelines using in-line inspection tools
The following article investigates the current possibilities for the in-line inspection of pipeline coating. Due to its different accessibility internal coating should be distinguished from external coating. With the existing methods of in-line inspection some information on the condition of specific types of coating can be obtained. It is discussed which current inspection methods are able to deliver and how minor changes would improve the value of the information. For in-line inspection tools internal coating is easier to detect than external coating. Sample measurements are presented for testing of internal and external coating using intelligent ultrasonic inspection tools.

In pipelines in industries formation of deposits occurs frequently. These deposits prevent the transport of substances and need to be removed on a regular basis to ensure smooth operation. Many a times, aggregates are installed such as heat exchangers, cooling tower or chill rolls, mastication rollers, injection moulding machines, bioreactors etc., and they have to function smoothly, because production depends directly on them. There are different processes for cleaning pipes, which include mechanical processes such as high-pressure cleaning, scrapper cleaning or milling, or alternatively chemical and chemo-mechanical processes respectively.

Construction of the interceptor in Dresden's old town centre. Linear Shoring: Making progress with large clearance
Sewer construction work in Käthe-Kollwitz-Ufer (road along the river bank) in Dresden got underway in September 2005. On behalf of Stadtentwässerung Dresden GmbH (the city sewers authority), the interceptor in the old town centre is being replaced from the stormwater tank in Johannstrasse to Bundschuhstrasse. A joint venture between Heinrich Lauber GmbH & Co. KG (technical management) and Braumann Spezialtiefbau GmbH (commercial management) is executing the first stage of the project in the Elbe meadows.
