Aqua America and PVR Partners Announce Joint Venture Private Water Pipeline in the Marcellus Shale
Aqua America Inc. (NYSE: WTR) and Penn Virginia Resource Partners, L.P. (NYSE: PVR) today announced that certain of their operating subsidiaries have formed a joint venture, Aqua — PVR Water Services, LLC, to construct and operate a private pipeline system to supply fresh water to natural gas producers drilling in the Marcellus Shale in north-central Pennsylvania. The 12-inch diameter steel pipeline will largely parallel the trunkline of PVR’s gathering system in Lycoming County and will share PVR’s existing rights-of-way.

VINCI wins a contract to build sewer systems in five Dominican Republic cities
VINCI, through its subsidiary VINCI Construction Grands Projets, has signed a design-build contract with INAPA (Instituto Nacional de Aguas Potables y Alcantarillados) covering wastewater collection, transfer and treatment systems in the cities of Monte Cristi, Neiba, Azua, San Jose de Ocoa and San Cristobal in the Dominican Republic. This project is part of the Dominican government's cholera eradication programme.

Water transfer pipeline utilises multiple tunneling technologies including EPB
As part of a £125 million project being undertaken by United Utilities known as the West East Link Main (WELM) pipeline, Tunnel Engineering Services (UK) Ltd recently provided a number of tunnelling machines for the completion of various tunnelling sections of the work, working in varying ground conditions and final pipeline diameters. Standard tunnelling and trenchless installations were used for the completion of the tunnelled works.

Water purification unit generates its own energy
A new biological water purification facility developed by Siemens generates enough methane gas to power its own operations. It also produces much less sludge than conventional systems. The pilot facility for this process, which is located at a site run by Singapore’s Public Utilities Board, has been operating in an energy- neutral manner since June 2010. Now, the city state is building a much larger pilot facility – one that will process 300 times more effluent than its predecessor, or about as much sewage water as is produced by around 1,000 people.
