BE-04 Sewage sludge treatment (DEMO)
Sewage sludge treatment is an integral part of wastewater treatment. This module provides an understanding for the treatment of sewage sludge and its possible utilization paths. It also describes the characteristics of the applied technical methods and their applications in practice. The module consists of 8 lectures covering the following topics: • Introduction to sewage sludge treatment • Composition and properties of sewage sludge • Thickening • Stabilization • Conditioning and dewatering • Drying • Water disinfection • Sewage sludge utilization
Operating processes in the treatment of wastewater and sewage sludge have a high ecologic and economic optimization potential. The overall aim of this module is to illustrate the significance of this potential. Upon successful completion you will be able to: • Describe the composition and the properties of sludge • Name the various factors that affect the quality and the properties of the sludge • Explain the applied technical methods • Describe the different ways of sewage sludge and their specific requirements
FiW was established in 1979 as institute at the RWTH Aachen University. Since then, FiW has implemented the result of its research and development in a wide range of national and international projects.
FiW’s scientific collaborators (civil engineers, process engineers, mechanical engineers, safety engineers and biologists) are planning and realizing projects and give expert advice on national and international level. FiW cooperates closely with other Aachen University institutes.

- Virtual social networking with other participants
- Reactivating knowledge regardless of time and place
Optional:
- Attainment of the RWTH Certificate, realized by RWTH International Academy
