Grain Size Distribution

Grain Size Curve

The cumulative frequency polygon of the mass percentages of the given soil sample is called a grading curve (or grain size curve), and is used for a definite designation of the soil.

“Cumulative frequency polygon” => A cumulative frequency polygon is a curve that results from a summation of chronologically consecutive values of a variable.

“Grading curve” => A grading curve (also called particle size distribution curve, grain size curve, or sieve curve) is used for a graphical representation of a type of soil.
