Aker Wirth Drilling Systems Used to Secure Mosul Dam

No fewer than 24 Aker Wirth universal drilling machines are currently in use for the continual maintenance of the Mosul Dam in Iraq. The Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources/State Commission for Dams & Reservoirs has now ordered parts for the B1-800 drills to the value of over € 1 million from our mechanical engineering company in Erkelenz, Germany. The delivery is scheduled for December 2010.

Less fouling ? more efficient RO: German and Israeli ministries fund research project

The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Israeli Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) have launched a research project with 1.5 million euros of funding. The three partners in the project are Dresden Technical University, the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel, and the German company inge watertechnologies AG, which specializes in ultrafiltration and membrane technology. The aim is to find ways of reducing fouling and scaling in membranes – especially in the context of treating municipal waste water – in order to improve the membranes' performance and durability and ultimately improve the efficiency of a reverse osmosis (RO) plant.

After having completed the contract for an Aker Wirth tunnel boring machine of 8 m diameter in December 2009, and following an optimal workshop acceptance, the various individual parts of our latest tunnel boring machine left our plant in Erkelenz at the beginning of July. The components are now on their way to Switzerland where a tunnel is to be bored for the extension of a hydroelectric power plant.

It was therefore decided to install a new sewer line. Only 2 years ago the road had been renewed and a repair or new installation for the house connection using the open trenching method would have split the supporting layer of tarmac and caused subsequent road subsidences.

Following its three-plus two year supplier agreement with gas distribution company, Wales & West Utilities, signed in 2008, MAN has delivered two new MAN TGS 26.440 6x2-4 BL chassis with ground-breaking suction excavation equipment from TT-UK and German design partner RSP. These are the first two vehicles of their kind purchased by WWU and are used for below ground gas-pipe maintenance and replacement work. Surrounding ground, including broken concrete, is sucked up and deposited in a chassis mounted container.
