Sandvik Mining bolsters RH460 DTH hammer series
Jul 03, 2014
Sandvik Mining has added 6- and 8-inch models to its growing RH460 DTH hammer family, designed to reduce costs, increase penetration rates and prolong service life in even more drilling applications. Sandvik Mining is also introducing 4- and 5-inch RH460hp hammers, air-efficient high-pressure models designed to operate at 32-35 bar (450-500 psi).
At 35 bar, RH460hp hammers consume less fuel and cost less to operate than similar hammers at the same pressure. The high-pressure hammers, an ideal match for Sandvik DR500-series rigs and the company’s new Pantera, feature the same benefits as all RH460 hammers.
The growing RH460 family optimizes the impact-energy transmission in variable ground conditions. Enhanced air cycle improves expansion and compression rates, producing more power while reducing air and fuel consumption.
Developments in the piston design and improved lubrication capabilities dramatically increase piston and hammer life across the RH460 series. Sandvik Mining has devoted much R&D work into designing the bearing surfaces to ensure bending vibrations in the piston are eliminated. RH460 hammers also feature a unique V-lock mount system designed to prevent movement of the internal components, ensuring reliability and eliminating the need for shims and special assembly tools.
The working principle of the RH460 range ensures that the hammers start up in any direction, making their design well-suited for all surface and underground mining applications. The design of the RH460 series makes the hammers easy to service. The complete high-performance, cost-effective range is designed to utilize bits with generic shank types.
