Mar 14, 2018
ProStar was issued a key Canadian patent that covers a computer implemented method for calculating tolerance zones for utility assets. The patented method helps to prevent damages to utilities and the environment during construction, maintenance and groundbreaking activities as well as severe conditions including weather, fires, and earthquakes.
A Canadian Patent No. 2846173, prepared by Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie LLP, one of nation’s leading intellectual property law firms, has been granted. The patent covers a computer implemented method for calculating tolerance zones for utility assets. This method allows the user to receive data about an area related to a location of a utility asset within a region.
The patented method helps to prevent damages to utilities and the environment during construction, maintenance and groundbreaking activities as well as severe conditions including weather, fires, and earthquakes.
“We are certainly excited to have played a significant role in the issuance of this Canadian patent for our client,” said Raymond R. Tabandeh, the LRRC partner who prosecuted the patent.
Damages to buried utilities during excavation is a major problem in the U.S. and Canada, and in almost every case, it is caused by a lack of quality information. The damage is typically the result of the operators of the heavy equipment being unaware and uninformed of the location and proximity of buried utility lines relative to their digging operations.
ProStar‘s Chief Executive Officer, Page Tucker stated, “We are delighted to see this key patent issued, as it covers protecting buried assets during groundbreaking activities using our precision GPS, Mobile and Cloud technologies.” ProStar’s Geospatial Intelligent Solutions™ utilize patented technologies and processes to provide the most advanced mobile mapping systems in the world.
“Now with our ClickBeforeYouDig® software, mission critical location information will be made available in real-time at the fingertips of field personnel including excavators, so that better business decisions are made,” stated Mr. Tucker.
