Mr. Richard J. Robbins is the influential developer of today's modern Tunnel Boring Machines, enabling the construction of large bore tunnels in geological material from hard rock to soft ground. Mr. Robbins' father, James S. Robbins, first developed the hard rock Tunnel Boring Machine in 1952.
Mr. Robbins will describe the facets of the development that culminated in the present day tunnel construction technology. Speakers Lok Home and Joe Roby will expand on the breadth of Tunnel Boring Machine use around the world. Ms. Wallis will comment about the past and current activity in the worldwide tunneling industry.
