Successful Re-Use for Herrenknecht Borer in The Hague
In The Hague, a refurbished tunnel boring machine (Mixshield, Ø 11,340 mm) has successfully excavated the twin tubes of the Victory Boogie Woogie Tunnel. After only 12 months, in January 2019 the final breakthrough took place near the city center of the Dutch coastal city. With a length of around 1,600 meters per tube, the tunnel section built using mechanized tunnelling technology is the centerpiece of Rotterdamsebaan, the largest infrastructure project in The Hague.

Treatment of Saline Wastewater During Algae Utilization
Algae farming is widespread in China. The macroalgae Laminaria is mainly used for food in China but its bioactive ingredients are also used, for example, in cosmetics, dietary supplements or as an additive to animal food. The industrial processing of Laminaria produces wastewater with a salinity of around 20 percent.

Christine Saball Assumes Role as Vice President, Tax for Aqua America as Bill Jerdon Plans Retirement after 23 Years of Service
Aqua America Inc. announced that Christine Saball will join Aqua as vice president, tax to succeed current VP Bill Jerdon, who plans to retire July 1. Saball, a CPA, will report to Chief Financial Officer Dan Schuller and oversee Aqua’s income tax functions with responsibility for tax planning, reporting, and compliance. She will manage a team assisting in regulatory filings, performing tax research, and providing budget and strategic guidance on tax matters.

New Cementless TBM Backfill Grout
Together with PORR Bau GmbH, MC has developed a new TBM backfill grout based on a geopolymer that is suitable for use in swelling rock formations. This cementless annular gap filler prevents swelling pressures, is sulphate-resistant and provides a permanent bedding for securing the tunnel tube.

VINCI Construction Grands Projets Awarded a Wastewater Treatment Plant in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
The consortium consisting of VINCI Construction Grands Projets (50% share and lead contractor) and Acciona Agua S.A. (50%) won the contract for the design-build portion of phase 1 for the Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe wastewater treatment plant, in Ho Chi Minh City. The design-build portion of the contract is set to take five years for completion, including the starting-up process and acceptance of works. The project also calls for operating and maintaining the facility for a five-year period.
