Discover ROM bv: Leading innovators in high-pressure cleaning technology, available through Pipe Core.
The team from Reed Plumbing & Drainage Solutions recently deployed the ROM bv eSTEAM Smoke Generator to tackle a project in the basement of a hospital located in the City of Melbourne, with the aim of resolving a long-standing problem that had evaded the hospital for years.
Equipped with a brand-new eSTEAM from the local distributor, Pipe Core, the team was tasked with identifying the discharge location of some overflow pumps located in a stormwater overflow pit and inspecting the pump line for leaks.
Lacking plans or information from the hospital staff regarding the pump line’s discharge point, they refrained from activating the pumps, which hadn’t been used in years, to avoid potential floods or damage to vital hospital equipment. Compounding the challenge, the pump line passed over an area heavily frequented by patients and staff, increasing the risks associated with potential leaks.
Previous attempts to inspect the area using CCTV were hindered by the pipe’s characteristics—it was a DN40 brass pipe with multiple bends running through the ceilings, making camera inspections challenging. Not wanting to cut into the ceiling to locate and chase the pipe, the operators easily manourved the portable smoke machine into position, supported by a set of robust rubber wheels, and were able to get to work quickly thanks to the unit’s very short warm-up time. The unit was quick to generate a high-quality, dense, dry smoke that permiated through the line to the discharge point.
This non-invasive approach not only saved valuable time and resources but also gave unwavering confidence that the overflow pump line was free from leaks and could be returned to service.
More about ROM
With over 40 years of experience, ROM is the global leader in high-pressure and vacuum technology and a specialist in toilet servicing and sewer cleaning equipment. In addition to the eSTEAM, ROM’s machines include sewer cleaning trailers, toilet service installations for cleaning mobile toilets, high-pressure sewer machines built into vans, and inspection systems.
What’s coming next to Pipe Core
In response to escalating oil and fuel costs, ROM has developed the e-Cube and e-EcoNomic high-pressure, 100% electric jetters, to help support the positive move towards zero-emission working zones. Both units open up opportunity for powerful, quieter and emission-free cleaning.
The ROM e-Cube is a smaller powerhouse that can deliver maximum cleaning pressure of 200 bar and a water capacity of up to 60 l/min. Its compact and lightweight design enables seamless integration into light delivery vans, making it idea for various urban applications.
Conversely, the ROM e-EcoNomic is a powerhouse, delivering a cleaning pressure of up to 200 bars, with a water capacity of up to 100 l/min. Ideal for cleaning and unblocking main sewers and home sewer connections up to DN 600. This unit fits easily into light and medium-sized commercial vehicles.

Both units are idea for cities, tunnels and industrial building as they operate without producing harmful emissions. Furthermore, the e-EcoNomic uses the latest-generation lithium-ion batteries. These batteries are smaller, lighter, have faster charging times, and are maintenance-free, ensuring uninterrupted operations throughout the day. As companies increasingly seek sustainable solutions to future-proof their operations and cities enforce zero-emission zones, investing in electric machinery like ROM’s jetters becomes crucial.
