Layne Christensen Announces $90.9 Million Wastewater Project for Its Heavy Civil Division
Layne Christensen Company announced that Islamorada, Village of Islands, Florida has approved a design-build-operate contract with Reynolds Water Islamorada, LLC for a centralized wastewater system. The system will satisfy the Village's requirement to implement a mandate from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to eliminate all residential septic systems and private wastewater treatment plants in the Florida Keys by December 31, 2015.

India: Mechanized Tunnelling for Better Infrastructure
On the Indian subcontinent there is a great need to improve the infrastructure in the areas of transport and supply. In the rapidly growing large cities, Herrenknecht technology is heavily involved in the expansion of both the water supply and the metro systems. This year an Indian record of 525 meters of drilled and secured tunnel in one month was achieved in the Veligonda water project (state of Andhra Pradesh) with a Herrenknecht Double Shield TBM (diameter 7,900 mm).

Belgium: EIB lends Aquafin EUR 200 million for wastewater treatment and water protection schemes in flemish region
The European Investment Bank (EIB) and Aquafin N.V. have signed the first EUR 50 million instalment of a EUR 200 million 30-year loan for financing projects involving the additional sanitation of various discharge locations, the construction of wastewater treatment works and the laying of strategic rainwater piping to improve the existing infrastructure.

AfDB Board Approves Debt Relief for Guinea, Loan for Marrakech Water Project
Guinea will benefit from assistance estimated at US $639.2 million in end-December 1999 net present value terms, aimed at reducing the country’s external debt burden to sustainable levels following the country’s attainment of the completion point under the Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPCs) Initiative. By reaching the completion point, Guinea also benefits from additional debt cancellation under the Multilateral Debt Relief Initiative (MDRI).
