In the past, the need for flashlights and confined space entry deterred many municipalities from investing in their manholes.
Yet manhole inspections often reveal more sources of inflow and infiltration (I&I) than other methods of sewer inspection, and improving them can be more cost-effective than repairing a pipe. Now, automated manhole scanning technology is making this inspection method a practical solution for combating I&I.
Manholes are a major source of inflow and infiltration (I&I) within a sewer system, and repairing them them can help municipalities save big. While their complex design presented a challenge in the past, new technologies have made manhole maintenance a safe and practical option for reducing I&I.
