24th Annual Microtunneling Short Course Organizers Pays it Forward to U.S. Veterans

Jan 23, 2017

A cause near and dear to the hearts of the 24th Annual Microtunneling Short Course organizers is helping the men and women who have served in the United States military successfully return to civilian life. To help with this effort, course organizers have teamed up with the Office of Veterans Services at the University of Colorado Boulder to offer a scholarship program for veterans at the annual Microtunneling Short Course.

Scholarships will be in the form of $1,000 scholarships (at least 5) issued to select qualifying veterans, and course registration scholarships (10) to attend the Microtunneling Short Course and its networking events. Additionally, a silent auction will be held throughout the course with proceeds benefitting the Office of Veterans Services.

The annual Microtunneling Short Course has been the premier event devoted to advancing the worldwide microtunneling industry. Much like the microtunneling market itself, the Microtunneling Short Course has evolved to meet the needs of professionals new to the market, as well as seasoned veterans looking to catch up on the latest developments. The 24th annual course returns to the University of Colorado Boulder from Feb. 7-9, 2017, with the one-day Pilot Tube Seminar on Feb. 6.

Since the inaugural event in 1994, the Microtunneling Short Course has drawn more than 3,000 participants. In 2016, the course was held in Boulder for the first time and drew a record number of participants (140).

The hallmark of the program is the technical presentations, which are given by real-world professionals including contractors, consulting engineers, utility owners and equipment manufacturers. Presentations cover all aspects of microtunneling, including planning, design, construction, site investigation, legal issues and any other topic relevant to the industry.

About the Office of Veteran Services

The University of Colorado Boulder manages an Office of Veterans Services (OVS), which assists prospective and current student veterans and veteran dependents. OVS provides programs, policies, payment assistance and support for these veterans. They recognize and honor the sacrifices these veterans have made and assist them with making a successful transition into their campus environment in order to help them expand their future through higher education. Veteran Services also aids in recruitment and retention of veterans to their campus along with providing counseling options and program information for the veteran/military community at the university. They also work with off-campus organizational programs that also assist veterans.
